POZ Men:
M4M who are living with HIV and their partners

"Men who have sex with men continue to constitute the majority of AIDS diagnoses in Vermont. However, the proportion of AIDS cases among men who have sex with men (MSM) has declined significantly since the 1980s, when this population comprised 67% of the state's AIDS incidence. Between 1996 and 2000, 50% of Vermont AIDS incidence was attributed to MSM." 2001 Vermont Comprehensive HIV Prevention Plan.

Vermont is fortunate to have two have major centers for HIV care-Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington and the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. The Comprehensive Care Clinic, in conjunction with both medical centers, offers HIV clinics in Brattleboro, Rutland and St. Johnsbury. Three AIDS service organizations (ASOs) cover the state-Vermont Cares with offices in Burlington, Montpelier and St. Johnsbury; AIDS Services of Southern Vermont with offices in Brattleboro and Bennington; and ACORN located in the Upper Valley region (White River Junction area). The ASOs offer case management and assistance with housing and other issues people with HIV encounter. In addition, the VT PWA Coalition is an advocacy organization run by and for people with HIV/AIDS.

Living with HIV today is very different than it was 10 years ago. People who have been infected for many years are now entering middle age and older. In addition to their HIV, they also need to be concerned about all of the health issues that their non infected peers are dealing with diabetes, heart disease, prostate cancer etc. Because you may be going to the doctors so frequently for your HIV care, you may forget to think about things like a prostate and colon rectal screening.

Relationships, whether you are in one currently, or seeking one, can pose unique issues when one partner is positive and the other is not. There is a special resource section below for "magnetic couples."
